The Australian Council of Local Government (ACLG) 2026 will bring together representatives from councils across Australia to engage directly with the Australian Government on shared priorities for communities.
ACLG provides an opportunity for local government leaders to meet with Australian Government ministers and participate in discussions on key policy issues affecting the sector.
The 2026 ACLG will take place on Monday 22 June 2026 at the Great Hall, Australian Parliament House, as a dedicated afternoon event. The program will feature a series of panel discussions and presentations focused on priority areas for local government, including housing, emergency management and productivity.
The event will also incorporate the 40th National Awards for Local Government, recognising innovation and excellence across councils nationwide. National Awards for Local Government website.
The ACLG 2026 will be held alongside the Australian Local Government Association’s (ALGA) National General Assembly, which will take place from 23–25 June 2026 in Canberra.
Registration will open at 2.30pm with sessions commencing at 3.30pm. At the conclusion of the forum a networking event will be held for attendees, this is anticipated to conclude at 8.00pm.

The National Awards for Local Government (National Awards) are the peak awards for the sector and showcase inspirational projects local governments are delivering in communities across Australia. They highlight the diversity of successful projects at the grassroots level and the positive impact local governments have on bringing communities together.
The National Awards are an annual celebration to recognise innovative and future-focused projects of excellence across the nation.
Taking part in the National Awards demonstrates commitment and pride in the community, and is an opportunity to show the nation the exciting and inspiring projects that are happening across Australia.
